LESSON 5 - THE VERB 'TO BE' (PRESENT TENSE)

- ես եմ * yes em * I am
- դու ես * du es * you (singular) are
- նա է * na e * he/she/it is
- մենք ենք * menk' enk' * we are
- դուք եք * duk' ek' * you (plural/formal) are
- նրանք են * nrank' en * they are

Examples:

- Տունը մեծ է * Tunë mets e * The house is big
- Շունը սեվ է * Shunë sev e * The dog is black
- Դու ճիշտ ես * Du chisht es * You are correct

you cannot say es curt em, it's a word to word translation which makes no sense in Armenian, you say , es mrsum em .

Does Eastern Armenian ever use "bagh" for "cold"? (I guess it would be pronounced "bpagh") That is a word ordinarily used in Werstern Armenian and can refer to either people or things.

yes, you can hear bagh in Eastern Armenian as well, in fact these are 2 branches of one and the same language, cannot be very very different. as for pronouncing it, b is pronounced as par (dance) and gh is pronouced like khaGHoGH (gh of grapes)
